Session Start: Sun Jan 04 01:24:00 2004
[01:24] * Waitstate sits in his office, considering recent events. It took signifigant convincing to keep Overwrite from following him up to the ship.
[01:25] * Admiral Lilwall enters Wait's office.
[01:25] * Waitstate looks up.
[01:25] <Admiral Lilwall> Any word from Bit?
[01:26] * Thrashmane monitors the monitors, sitting in his almost-comfortable seat on the bridge. Hm, those monitors are sure... monitory.
[01:26] <Waitstate> Nothing. He's got himself holed up in the ventral obs lounge, and no-one's got the nerve to bother him. Better than him locked up in the computer core though, I guess.
[01:27] <Waitstate> This is all a complete mindfuck, you know that?
[01:27] <Admiral Lilwall> You don't say.
[01:28] <Waitstate> Overwrite tried to follow me up here. It was too weird though.
[01:28] <Admiral Lilwall> He doesn't deserve to set foot up here.
[01:28] <Waitstate> eh?
[01:30] <Admiral Lilwall> He doesn't deserve his position either, for that matter. I don't recommend giving him any sort of significant command again either. When we return to own time.
[01:30] <Waitstate> Ok, I'm not following.
[01:31] * Waitstate sits up straighter, a confused look on his face.
[01:31] <Admiral Lilwall> Overwrite is more than too happy to let himself be wiped from existence.
[01:32] <Admiral Lilwall> So much so that he hasn't even bothered to consider those under his command before himself.
[01:33] * Sunspot - or at least, Future-Sunspot, has found a nice spot overlooking the city to brood.
[01:33] <Waitstate> I thought he just wanted what was best for everyone. Did you see Adam? Primus, it was frightening. He was interfaced with me when I died in this timeline. He... hasn't been well since then.
[01:34] <Admiral Lilwall> 'What's best for everyone', hadn't even entered his mind until I had him ask what Sunspot wanted.
[01:35] <Waitstate> Oh?
[01:35] <Admiral Lilwall> It was him first, then no one else. Until others were pointed out, anyway.
[01:36] <Waitstate> What did Sunspot say? I suppose I've been relatively insulated. Overwrite's been demanding a lot of my time
[01:36] <Admiral Lilwall> Don't know. I left the commander to deal with his problem.
[01:37] <Admiral Lilwall> Didn't look like she was comfortable in the slightest with the concept though.
[01:38] <Waitstate> Can we really judge our Overwrite by what this Overwrite has done though?
[01:38] <Admiral Lilwall> Can't say I blame her.
[01:39] <Admiral Lilwall> This Overwrite is all to eager to be dragging off of your heels, much like ours is.
[01:40] <Waitstate> ...granted. But still, this has gotta be sort of a trauma for him.
[01:41] <Admiral Lilwall> If you say so.
[01:41] <Admiral Lilwall> I'm heading back to the planet soon. I'm interested to know if he has infact been trying to find out what others think of it all.
[01:43] <Admiral Lilwall> Anything you want done while I'm down there?
[01:44] <Waitstate> Keep me appraised, I guess. But don't you want to go back to our own timeline? I mean, yes, the people down there have all lead their own lives, but what about ours?
[01:47] <Admiral Lilwall> Like I said earlier. No telling if going back to our time will make their, or our lives any better off than this.
[01:48] <Admiral Lilwall> By the way...
[01:49] <Waitstate> None of us will ever really belong here if we stay. Hell, I'm rather glad I'm dead in this timeline. I don't know what I'd do if I had to meet my future self like this.
[01:49] * Admiral Lilwall takes out a datapad and drops it on Waitstate's desk.
[01:50] <Waitstate> What's this?
[01:50] <Admiral Lilwall> Thought I'd grab some tech before it was gone.
[01:51] * Admiral Lilwall heads out of the office and makes his way to the airlock exiting to the orbital station.
[01:51] <Waitstate> heh.
[01:51] * Waitstate shakes his head at the mild hypocracy.
[01:53] * Admiral Lilwall eventually is planetside and sets about trying to find Overwrite.
[01:53] * Future Comet zips past Lilwall.
[01:54] * Future Cirrus is tagging along, looking weirdly like a little brother.
[01:54] <Admiral Lilwall> At least some things haven't changed around here.
[01:56] [narration] Unlike Comet and Sunspot, Cirrus seems mostly unchanged.
[01:56] <Comet> You're sure you saw this part for sale there for this price?
[01:57] <Cirrus> Of course! But we gotta hurry, they only had a couple left!
[01:58] <Comet> Then I'm throttling up by five. Can you manage?
[01:58] * Admiral Lilwall decides to just wander Haven, taking in as much as can while trying to sort out his thoughts.
[01:58] <Cirrus> *grins* have you ever been able to shake me?
[01:59] <Comet> Heh, sorry. I must be getting old. Memory's slipping.
[02:01] <Cirrus> Silly! *does a complex aerial spin*
[02:04] <Comet> Show off. C'mon!
[02:04] * Comet speeds up.
[02:05] * Admiral Lilwall ends up at what would appear to be the command center and ventures inside
[02:06] * Admiral Lilwall moves to the front desk.
[02:06] <Admiral Lilwall> Excuse me, is this where I'll find Overwrite?
[02:06] <bot behind desk> Yes, do you have an appointment?
[02:07] <Admiral Lilwall> No. If he's here I want to see him though.
[02:07] <bot behind desk> One moment please.
[02:08] * deskbot confers with Overwrite for a moment before motioning Lilwall down a corridor.
[02:08] <Overwrite> [comm] Send him up, please.
[02:08] * Admiral Lilwall makes his way to whereever it is Overwrite is. Coming to a door, he hits the buzzer.
[02:09] * Overwrite signals the door open.
[02:09] * Admiral Lilwall enters and looks around the office.
[02:10] <Overwrite> Come in, Admiral. It's good to see you again. Have a seat?
[02:10] <Admiral Lilwall> Unusually messy for you, isn't it? *sits*
[02:10] <Admiral Lilwall> Whats with all the datapads, resorting?
[02:11] <Overwrite> I'm examining our files from the accident, actually. Can I offer you a beverage?
[02:11] <Admiral Lilwall> No, thanks.
[02:11] * Overwrite nods.
[02:12] <Overwrite> I was looking, hoping to find anything that might assist you. My staff has been... reluctant to volunteer their assistance.
[02:12] <Admiral Lilwall> I see. So you've spoken with them of Waitstate's desire then?
[02:13] <Overwrite> Some of them, yes. Others... well, it's a small colony after all.
[02:14] <Admiral Lilwall> What was the general feedback?
[02:15] * Overwrite shifts in his seat, as though not wanting to answer.
[02:15] <Overwrite> It was... not the reaction I was hoping for.
[02:16] <Admiral Lilwall> And is this feeling shared by all of them? Or do some share your thoughts?
[02:18] <Overwrite> No-one was exactly eager. But some of them understood, at least in principle. Others, not so much. Sunspot was quite... vocal, for instance.
[02:19] <Admiral Lilwall> Tell me, had I not mentioned it, would you have asked others about this at all? You couldn't have thought everyone would be as happy about as you, now really?
[02:20] <Overwrite> It's quite simply the right thing to do. Their opinions should not have to come in to it.
[02:20] * Admiral Lilwall chuckles.
[02:20] <Admiral Lilwall> How do you figure that?
[02:21] <Admiral Lilwall> Should they not have the right to voice their thoughts over whether or not they should be allowed to exist?
[02:22] <Overwrite> This is an anomalous timeline. I've read enough about temporal mechanics in the last century to understand about these things. We would not be here to have this discussion, either of us, if not for that anomaly.
[02:23] <Admiral Lilwall> So, these last 100 years or so, weren't real? They don't count for anything to you? Just another hardship you've had to put up with?
[02:23] <Overwrite> One I'll gladly be rid of, yes.
[02:24] <Admiral Lilwall> Heh.
[02:25] <Admiral Lilwall> Was there even ONE other here, who would be glad to erase all this? *motions around to the room*
[02:27] <Overwrite> Adam Marshall, whose enhanced longevity by our hands will now be spent under constant psychiatric care. His father, before he died anyway. Bit, if was capable of caring any longer.
[02:28] * Sunspot wanders in from where she'd been eavesdropping after noticing Lilwall's arrival.
[02:29] <Overwrite> Slipstream is more paranoid than ever, and Recoil is right there with her.
[02:29] <Admiral Lilwall> Heh, so the thoughts of the few who've suffered the most, should naturally overrule those of everyone else?
[02:29] <Admiral Lilwall> Don't get me wrong.
[02:30] <Admiral Lilwall> It sucks what happened to those who have suffered since the crash.
[02:30] <Overwrite> None of which has to happen!
[02:30] <Sunspot> It DID happen!
[02:30] <Admiral Lilwall> Why? Because you're unhappy?
[02:31] <Overwrite> Of course I'm unhappy! I'm hardly the only one.
[02:32] <Admiral Lilwall> Not until I mentioned it anyway. Hm?
[02:32] <Overwrite> Oh, sure, people have adapted. But ask anyone 100 years ago what they thought and they'd take it all back in a nanosecond!
[02:34] <Admiral Lilwall> That's not an option. We can only ask *now*. I wish it had never happened either, but it has. And just because you CAN change it, doesn't nessecarily means it's the right thing to do.
[02:34] <Overwrite> Of COURSE it's the right thing to do! Can't you SEE?
[02:35] <Sunspot> The ones who started this base a hundred years ago aren't the only ones here anymore. We have refugees to worry about! Refugees who wouldn't have had anywhere to go! The original outpost wasn't big enough for all of them, but now...what we have built here goes beyond our handful of survivors, and you would ignore that?
[02:35] <Overwrite> Who's to say we won't build again? Better even!
[02:36] <Admiral Lilwall> What about those created here? They would be gone.
[02:36] <Admiral Lilwall> The influences you've had through out space in the last 100 years.
[02:36] <Admiral Lilwall> Overwrite.
[02:37] <Admiral Lilwall> You are commander of LONAC.
[02:37] <Sunspot> I've tried it, Admiral. He won't listen. He can't move past it. He won't.
[02:37] <Admiral Lilwall> The choices you make are not to bring you personal happiness.
[02:38] <Admiral Lilwall> Whether you like it not, others follow you. Hell, some of them probably look up to you as well.
[02:38] <Overwrite> No, no, this isn't what I was meant for. It has to change! It's better for everyone.
[02:38] <Admiral Lilwall> Not if the majority disagrees.
[02:39] <Admiral Lilwall> The very least you could do, is even consider the entire colony, not just one aspect of it, and certain not just yourself.
[02:39] <Overwrite> If they knew what was good for them, they'd agree with me. They're all just holding on to their petty individual existances, ignoring the greater good. I've had to see it all. I KNOW!
[02:40] <Admiral Lilwall> Heh.
[02:40] <Admiral Lilwall> When I look at Haven, I feel a level of pride and accomplishment.
[02:40] <Admiral Lilwall> The only thing petty I've come across so far, has been you.
[02:41] <Admiral Lilwall> Good day, Commander.
[02:41] * Admiral Lilwall gets up and exits the office.
[02:41] <Overwrite> No, please, you have to listen to me!
[02:41] * Overwrite gets up and tries to follow.
[02:41] * Sunspot grabs him.
[02:41] <Overwrite> Let go of me!
[02:42] <Admiral Lilwall> Listen to you? Why should I do what you will not?
[02:42] <Admiral Lilwall> Your place is here, Overwrite.
[02:42] <Sunspot> Don't talk to me about pain, Overwrite. You can't even fathom how much I lost that day. NOBODY here dies without getting past me.
[02:43] <Overwrite> *weakly* then why are you against me?
[02:43] <Overwrite> why is everyone against me? *sags*
[02:44] <Sunspot> Because nobody wants all this to have been for NOTHING!
[02:45] * Admiral Lilwall exits the building to roam the city again.
[02:46] <Overwrite> Don't you see? They can take the best of what we've accomplished back, and do it all better. No one has to die...
[02:46] * Comet zips past Lilwall again.
[02:47] <Comet> So they actually DID have it. Thanks, Cirrus, I owe you!
[02:47] <Cirrus> I never let down my friends!
[02:47] <Sunspot> They ALREADY DID! Look around you! This is reality! And it's no less real because YOU don't like it!
[02:48] <Overwrite> It would be so simple to make it all go away.
[02:48] * Admiral Lilwall wonders whether this Comet and Cirrus know about the issues surrounding Haven's future.
[02:50] * Sunspot snarls.
[02:50] <Sunspot> I could make it all go away for YOU now and I would have one less threat to this city to worry about.
[02:51] * Admiral Lilwall finds a spot not far from the building to sit.
[02:52] <Overwrite> You lost as much as any of us. How can you be against this?
[02:55] <Sunspot> Because we knew that we were better for it. That we had LEARNED. To erase all the progress that has come of that pain, for the whole colony, would be an insult.
[02:56] * Gravix walks up to Admiral Lilwall.
[02:56] <Gravix> Mind if I join you?
[02:56] <Admiral Lilwall> Not at all
[02:56] <Admiral Lilwall> How are you finding all this, Gravix? Erm, actually, are you our Gravix, or future Gravix?
[02:57] <Overwrite> If you're so happy with your existance, why don't you go back with them? I certainly won't try to stop you.
[02:57] <Sunspot> We would create an anomaly, both of us! You're so into temporal physics these days, the universe would tear apart and spit us out!
[02:57] <Gravix> I'm the one that came here with you.
[02:58] <Admiral Lilwall> Good. I dunno how if I could handle a future you at the moment, heh.
[02:58] <Gravix> Haven't bothered to inquire where my future self ended up. I think it's better not to know these things.
[02:58] <Overwrite> You know it's not that simple. If it was, the presence of an entire second ship and crew would be wreaking havoc as we speak!
[02:58] <Admiral Lilwall> I agree.
[02:59] <Admiral Lilwall> Have bots around here been looking at you funny?
[03:00] <Gravix> Not that I've noticed. I'm keeping a low profile though
[03:00] <Sunspot> And none of this is about ME! It's about everyone else here! They are under MY PROTECTION. You pretend to serve them, but you don't even begin to appreciate what that means. Did their deaths mean nothing? Did they not show you what it means to serve!?
[03:00] <Admiral Lilwall> You're probably still alive then.
[03:00] <Gravix> I'm not sure anymore what to make of this place, or this time.
[03:00] <Overwrite> I want to SAVE THEM ALL, DAMNIT!
[03:02] <Sunspot> Not the refugees, not those who have come since! They are as much a part of our group as anyone who was here before. Our best friend died saving us, and in his memory I'm supposed to let you passively leave these refugees to whatever fate they'd have without us?
[03:03] <Gravix> If it were up to me, we'd find a way to travel back and just play the cards we're dealt.
[03:03] <Admiral Lilwall> I wish it were so simple.
[03:03] <Gravix> Either that, or just stay in this time and resume our previous course.
[03:03] <Admiral Lilwall> But there's too many things bring such an action into question.
[03:04] * Bit finds himself in Engineering on board the Freedom, after wandering about the ship.
[03:04] <Bit> Sunspot, are you here?
[03:05] <Overwrite> Who's to say they wouldn't find us again?
[03:06] * Sunspot - present tense - looks up from some consoles she was tinkering with. "Hmmwhazzat?"
[03:06] <Bit> Ah, good.
[03:07] <Bit> I believe I know... how to get us back. To prevent all of this.
[03:07] <Gravix> Artifice would have wanted to go back to stop all of this.
[03:09] <Gravix> His mission in life was to build a better universe.
[03:09] <Sunspot> Am I gonna have to rebuild the engines again?
[03:09] <Gravix> What a foolish thought.
[03:10] <Bit> No. Well, I don't believe so. My specialty is not engineering. I have a set of specifications here. *hands her a pad*
[03:10] <Admiral Lilwall> Nothing wrong with that. At least in concept. Reality always begs to differ. Be glad you're not the one making the decision, Gravix.
[03:11] <Sunspot> Hrm... I'll look it over and see what we can do... Has Wait looked at it yet?
[03:11] <Bit> No, I came straight here. I've been... distracted.
[03:11] <FutureSunspot> I'm not willing to dabble in chance here, Overwrite.
[03:12] <Sunspot> Oh. I'll talk to him about it. He'll probably wanna know what I'm doing to his ship.
[03:12] <Admiral Lilwall> Heh, I got worked up into an argument with future Overwrite. Forgot the other reason I came down.
[03:12] * Bit nods.
[03:12] <Admiral Lilwall> Cya round, Gravix.
[03:12] <Gravix> take care Admiral.
[03:12] * Admiral Lilwall heads back inside.
[03:12] <Bit> Of course. I most likely should have brought it to him first. However, I found myself here instead.
[03:13] * Admiral Lilwall reenters Overwrite's office.
[03:13] * Overwrite has no response, and looks at the floor.
[03:15] <Admiral Lilwall> Forgot why I came down in the first place.
[03:15] <Overwrite> A-admiral?
[03:18] <Admiral Lilwall> Waitstate wanted to know if you had anything helpful to submit. It seems he's just as determined in his plans as you are. I guess it's a trait that was passed on.
[03:19] <Overwrite> Y-yes, I've compiled a large amount of useful data. Advances from the last 100 years, history, logs when available. I left out galactic history though. I didn't think it would be right.
[03:20] * Admiral Lilwall stares for a moment, but decides to let that last part slide for now.
[03:20] <Admiral Lilwall> Thank you.
[03:20] * Admiral Lilwall goes to leave, but turns back for a moment.
[03:22] <Admiral Lilwall> So you know, I don't know what to do about all this. I don't want to be dead. But there's a lot here that outweighs my personal gain.
[03:22] <Admiral Lilwall> I'm trying to look at it from both angles.
[03:22] <Admiral Lilwall> As far as you've shown, you don't want to look at it from both ways.
[03:23] <Overwrite> In a way, we all died that day. Not one of us is the person we would have been. Please, remember that
[03:23] <Admiral Lilwall> That may be true.
[03:24] <Admiral Lilwall> But here, in this time frame, it isn't just the original crew of the Freedom, or Outpost 1 anymore. Others have come in since the crash, both from other areas of space, and new borns here.
[03:25] <Admiral Lilwall> Your decision should encompass their benefit also. Not just the original team's.
[03:25] <Admiral Lilwall> You owe that to them. As their leader.
[03:25] <Admiral Lilwall> Whether you want to accept that or not, Overwrite, you owe it to them.
[03:26] <Admiral Lilwall> I'm returning to the Freedom. *exits*
